In our department the main research direction is on wireless networks with focus on relay enhancements (multi hop wireless networks).
Future IMT-Advanced systems will benefit significantly by fixed relays.
For candidate systems like LTE-Advanced certain aspects on ISO-OSI layer 2 need to be investigated in order to achieve these benefits.
Questions of interest are the performance improvements by applying relay stations.
Capacity over offered load, loss and delay statistics are our interest.
Various traffic conditions as well as geometric considerations are to be studied.
For parts of these questions Opnet helps finding solutions.
Especially for traffic modelling and statistical evaluation we will be using customized Opnet models.
Teaching:
In student projects like "Studienarbeiten" and "Seminararbeiten" we teach students and will offer projects to work with Opnet to improve their knowledge on dirstributed systems before graduation.
