INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING PAPERS TO The Second European Personal Mobile Communications Conference together with 3. ITG Fachtagung "Mobile Kommunikation" 1. INTRODUCTION =============== Instructions are given to the authors as a basic guideline for preparing papers to The Second European Personal Mobile Communications Conference together with 3. ITG Fachtagung "Mobile Kommunikation". As an additional help, we have prepared these instructions using the same typfaces and layout that we expect you to use in preparing your paper on a wordprocessor or other desktop-publishing equipment (cf. postscript versions of this instruction). 2. CAMERA-READY PAPER ===================== Authors are strongly advised to observe the following instructions in preparing the camera-ready paper so that all the papers appeared in the proceedings will look almost similar. In case you face some problems, please contact us immediately. You have to use A4 paper (21 cm x 29.7 cm). Set the left and right margins to 1.7 cm, the top margin to 2.5 cm and the bottom margin to 4.3 cm. The text has to be written in two columns, each 8.4 cm (3.3 in) wide with a space of 0.9 cm (0.3 in) between them. The height of the columns shall be 22.9 cm (9 in). Indent the beginning of each paragraph about 0.4 cm. Use a proportional, serif typeface like Times (or Dutch) Roman. If your word processor has several types sizes, use if possible the sizes specified in TABLE I. Left- and right-justfy your columns and use automatic hyphenation and checking of English spelling if you have these facilities. Try to make the length of the two columns on each page the same by using one or two spaces between sections, and between text and tables or figures. This applies also for the last page. TABLE I TYPE SIZES FOR CAMERA-READY PAPER ------------------------------------------------------- Category of text Type sizes ------------------------------------------------------- Paper title 14 points Bold Authors name 12 points Main text, authors affiliation, text and symbols in figures, major headings (uppercase) 10 points Subheadings 10 points Italic Abstracts 10 points Bold Table names and captions (uppercase), text in tables, table superscripts, text superscripts, figure captions, references and footnotes 8 points ------------------------------------------------------- Figures can either be digitalized and inserted into the text in the word processor, or pasted into place in the final paper. 3. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS ======================= a) Units Use preferably SI-units. English units may be given in parentheses. b) Abbreviations and Acronyms Define abbreviations and acronyms the first time they appear. Do not use abbreviations unnecessarily. Well-known abbreviations like IEEE or USA do not have to be defined. c) Title and Headings 1) Title: Centre the title on the paper on the top of the first page above the two columns. If the title is longer than the width of the two columns , divide it into two parts with the first part slightly longer than the second. Centre the names of the author(s) and their affiliation immediately below. 2) Headings: Centre major haedings in the columns. Place sub-headings flush with the left-hand margin. Place sub-sub-headings indented at the beginning of a paragraph. 3) Typeface: Use the typeface and case recommended above for titles and headings. Always use the same combination of headings throughout the paper. d) Figures and Tables Position figures and tables at the tops and bottoms of columns. Large figures and tables may span over two columns. Place figures and tables after their reference in the text. Use the refereneces "Fig. 1" and "TABLE I", no other abbreviations. Center table name and table caption on different lines above the table. Put figure name and figure caption to the right on the same line under the figure. Take care to make the figures readable by not using thin lines, small symbols and too many details. Label the axis in diagrams with words instead of symbols, and show the used units and the numbering in a clear way. e) References List all references in the end of the paper. Footnotes shall be avoided. For reference in the text, use consecutive numbers in square brackets like this [ ]. Do not use the word "reference" or "ref." before the reference number. Never start a sentence with a reference number. In the list of references place the reference number flush with the left margin. Indent the rest of the reference. Give all author names; do not use "et al." except when there are more than six authors. After the authors' name put the name of the paper between quotation marks. Then put the name of the book or proceedings in italic (or underlined), the name of the publisher and the publishing date. An example of a reference to a book is given in [1], a reference to a paper in conference proceedings in [2] and a reference to an article in a journal in [3]. f) Numbering Number your pages in pencil on the back. Do not put page numbers on the front side, since all manuscripts are going to be re-numbered! When you numer equations, put the numbers between parentheses and place them flush with the right margin. 4.
