The Second European Personal Mobile Communications Conference

together with
3. ITG-Fachtagung "Mobile Kommunikation"
September 30 - October 2, 1997, Bonn, Germany

This conference is a follow-up event to the successful European Personal and Mobile Communications Conference (EPMCC) held in November '95 in Bologna, Italy, and has been scheduled for Sept. 30th, to Oct. 2nd, 1997 in Bonn, Germany. The conference is colocated with the periodic national German mobile radio systems conference, the 3. ITG Fachtagung "Mobile Kommunikation". Sponsors are the following national scientific societies in Europe, which cooperate under the roof of: EUREL, Brussels, Belgium:

AEI, Milano, Italy IEE, London, UK

ÖVE/GIT, Vienna, Austria SEE, Paris, France
SEV/ITG, Fehraltorf, Switzerland VDE/ITG, Frankfurt, Germany.
SER, Stockholm, Sweden
Royal Institution of Engineers in the Netherlands

Scope of EPMCC'97

Wireless and cellular radio products extending telecommunications services to mobile users are now being adopted as consumer items throughout Europe. The GSM and DCS 1800 standards have reached a suprising acceptance worldwide and are further elaborated, the DECT system has been extended to be applicable in the local loop, systems based on the TETRA standard are entering the market, the HIPERLAN standard has been drafted and the TFTS based flight telephone system is being introduced.
The UMTS and IMT2000 system design work is progressed actively. Low earth orbit satellite based mobile radio networks are expected to open service in 1998.
Wireless ATM has recently reached attention as a new type of mobile broadband system at ETSI RES 10 and ATM Forum after the Mobile Broadband System project during the RACE II programme had demonstrated its feasibility.
The management of user mobility is about to be introduced also in the fixed networks while ATM based broadband networks are being prepared to be able to support a seamless handover of virtual channel connections to be able to provide a wide range of mobile multimedia services.
All the related exciting and rapidly progressing research and development activities are now discussed in world wide forums and will be discussed at the conference.
EPMCC'97 will primarily focus on advancements and innovations in wireless and cellular narrowband and broadband mobile radio and on mobility support of fixed networks. Integration of mobile radio into the telecommunication and computer communications systems are key factors to be discussed.
Invited are papers on the conference topics that will foster interactions among researchers and practitioners in wireless computing, mobile radio (tele)communications, management and control of mobile radio networks and other related fields from academia, industry and government.
The scope of EPMCC'97 encompasses but is not limited to:

 - Narrow-/Broadband Mobile Radio       - Radio Propagation
 - Adaptive and Intelligent Antennas    - Transmission Techniques
 - Multiple Access - Techniques         - Fixed Network Aspects
 - Any Wireless Applications            - Dynamic Channel Selection
