On March 1, 1971, the author took over the newly founded
chair ``Allgemeine Elektrotechnik und Datenfernverarbeitung''
(''General Electrical Engineering and Teleprocessing'') within the
EE-faculty of the Aachen University of Technology. Since then
activities in the growing field of teletraffic theory and engineering
were present at this university.
Besides lecturing a basic course on ``Fundamentals of Electrical
Engineering'' (magnetic and electro-magnetic fields, AC-network
theory) a regular two semester lecture ''Datenfernverarbeitung
I+II'' was developed for graduate students providing an
introduction into random processes, Markov chains and queuing theory
as well as various aspects of teletraffic engineering with respect to
the data networks of those years.
The research activities of the first period were carried by the work
of alltogether 17 Ph.D. dissertations and by a great number of
diploma theses. The achievements of these efforts were published
by contributions to the Int. Teletraffic Congress (ITC) and to several
other international and national congresses. These research activities
were mainly devoted to the following topics:
