Introduction:

The Wireless Access Radio Protocol2 (WARP2) is an event-driven stochastic simulation environment developed at the Chair of Communication Networks (ComNets) for the performance evaluation of modern wireless communication protocols. Systems like IEEE Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) 802.11a/e/n/p/s and WiMedia Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) have been implemented and evaluated with the WARP2 simulation environment.

A JAVA based Graphic User Interface (GUI) is also developed for the WARP2 simulation environment, in order to illustrate the package transmission process on the wireless channel and stations’ geographic position. The JAVA GUI reads in the log file, which is generated during the simulation run and containing the information of every channel state transition and packet transmission event, and presents it in a graphic way that can be easily understood for debug and demonstration purposes.

The goal of this student thesis work is to enhance the JAVA GUI with more sophisticate functionalities, e.g., the animation of mobility according to the mobility information of each station in the simulation log file.

What you can gain through this student project are:

  • The knowledge of simulative research work for wireless communication protocols;
  • 2-D graphical programming with JAVA

Tools used in this work:

  •  JAVA
  • Unix/Linux
  • LaTex

If you are familiar with JAVA programming and have interest on this topic, please just drop me a message or visit me in the office :-)
