Introduction:
/f>/lock>/wrap>/imagedata>/shape>Performance evaluation of vehicular communication protocols relies pretty much on computational simulations. For researches concentrating on Medium Access Control (MAC) and higher layers of vehicular communications, the modeling work of the underlying Physical layer (PHY) and wireless channel has significant impacts on both the computational efficiency and the correctness of simulation results. The under-developing IEEE 802.11p standard specifies a MAC and a OFDM based PHY for next generation of vehicular communications. However, the evaluation of the performance of such PHY in high mobility environments is still an open issue. The main goal of this thesis is to evaluate the PER performance by means of stochastic simulation using SIMULINK© models for IEEE 802.11p and V2V wireless channels./path>/f>/f>/f>/f>/f>/f>/f>/f>/f>/f>/f>/formulas>/stroke>/shapetype>

The concrete tasks of this thesis include:
Setup new inter-vehicle wireless multi-path channel models with the tap-delay structure for the above mentioned model;
Based on the developed SIMULINK© model, evaluate the PER performance of IEEE 802.11p PHY with respect to different Signal-Noise Ratio (SNR), PHY mode and packet size.
What you can gain through this student project are:
Comprehensive understanding on principles and modelling of wireless radio channel;
Sound knowledge on the physical layer protocol of IEEE WLAN system;
Intensive working experience with MATLAB© and SIMULINK©;
Participating in the industrial Car2Car communication project cooperating with PHILIPS.
