Gigabit Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) for Multimedia Applications and MESH WPAN

Kurzbeschreibung

As one of the hottest areas of wireless communications, the Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) which is standardized by the IEEE802.15 WG, addresses the delivery of information over relatively short distances among relatively few participants. There are mainly two branches of WPANs. One is focused on the multimedia applications with relatively higher data rates and better supports for QoS, to which the IEEE802.15.3a/b/c TG/SGs and the industrial alliance WiMedia are chartered. The other kind of WPANs is the low speed, long lift-time and low cost sensor network, as a counterpart, IEEE802.15.4a/b TGs are responsible for its standardization and Zigbee is the industrial alliance targeting at this market.
