Abstract
In this paper a general S-UMTS Reference Model is elaborated which allows both, to insure the usage of existing systems, and the integration of basic innovations and revolutionary components. The proposed Reference Model foresees two migration steps to S-UMTS. As a matter of fact a smooth migration path to S-UMTS is obtained which foresees appropriate interworking functions in both the user's end-system and between core networks.
