An Error Model for Radio Transmissions of Wireless LANs at 5GHz

ETSI BRAN HiperLAN/2 and IEEE 802.11a are broadband radio access systems for Fixed Wireless Access Networks, Wireless Local Area Networks, and Home Networking. We discuss error models of radio transmissions of these systems. With an accurate channel characterization, the performance and attributes of the radio transmission scheme and the protocols are predictable by means of computer simulations. This contribution discusses the modeling approach and the assumptions made to allow efficient calculations of frame transmission errors. Focus of interest is the Home Networking scenario.
