Abstract
Abstract|Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) based on Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineer- ing (IEEE) 802.11 constantly conquer new markets. At this time the home user market is most important of them all, as no other market has such a high growth rat. Despite WLANs in business use, a home WLAN will not oer an infrastructure for the network. Therefore all centralized support for Quality of Service (QoS) is of lower importance than in a business network. A decentralized support for QoS, as 802.11e will oer by a new Coordination Function (CF) is needed. Unfortu- nately 802.11 neither oers a relay function nor does it consider QoS in that case. Considering that home user equipment will mainly be used for multimedia applications, a decentralized multihop procedure for 802.11 is needed.
