Abstract To improve the conveyance of broadband services such as data, voice, video and multimedia between users' premises and a broadband core network, it is necessary to optimise the performance of the access and transmission systems. In this paper, adaptive technologies of data transmission and channel allocation in Asynchronous Transfer Modus (ATM) for the broadband Fixed Wireless Access Network (FWAN) are examined. Simulation results of Dynamic Channel Allocation (DCA) and link adaptation for FWAN systems operating in the 30 GHz band are presented. As an example, a Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) system is evaluated, considering adaptive data coding for error protection, power control, and channel adapting modulation schemes.
