Abstract
A wireless local area network WLAN standard, called HIPERLAN/2, is being defined in the ETSI/BRAN project. The standard can provide wireless access to several fixed networks with high data rate in the 5 GHz band. The specification of the physical layer and the basic data link control layer were finalized at the end of 1999. This paper is intended to describe the basic medium access mechanism and the reliability of the radio transmission in HIPERLAN/2, and to show the data throughput of the radio link protocol simulated in a noise limited environment
