Abstract Radio channel measurements and ray tracing simulations are performed for the purpose of determining the propagation characteristic of the radio channel at 5.2 GHz. To combat typical error sources of ray launching a novel method with twofold detection areas is used. Good agreement between ray launching and measurements are found in typical indoor environments. Comparisons of the angle of incidence of signal components for measurements and simulations motivate to use ray tracing as means for reference for the assessment of algorithms used to determine the angle of incidence.
