Abstract Wireless LANs support packet based communication between partly meshed mobile (movable) workstation by using them as relais stations if required. We investigate the traffic performance of a multi-hop wireless communication system with directive cyclically rotating beam antennas applying probabilistic and stochastic simulation methods. Our results prove that with carefully chosen parameters the one-hop throughput can be raised three times with directive compared to omnidirective antennas without increasing the mean transmission time per hop.
