Abstract Recent developments in worldwide standardization bodies show the industry's will to put products enabling relay and mesh-based wireless networks on the marked. In contrast to this, theoretical research is still struggling to develop an information theory which estimates the capacity of wireless multihop networks. While the ideas and results from [GuptaK2000] enabled deeper insights into the capacity bounds, the implications for real-world products, deployed in realistic environments are still unclear. In this report, we develop a toolbox that aims at bridging this gap between theory and practice: By extending the methods from [Toumpis2003-CapacityRegions], we are able to model the characteristics of the physical layer, the medium access control, the scheduling and the routing in a detailed manner. Furthermore, the toolbox enables the examination of realistic scenarios and deployment concepts. Hence, it becomes possible to compare different existing and future protocols regarding their impact on the capacity of a wirless multihop network in a realistic environment.
