Abstract
A new networking architecture referred to as Ambient Networks is currently under investigation, which aims at enabling the cooperation of heterogeneous networks belonging to different operator and/or technology domains. Key elements of the Ambient Networks idea are the Ambient Control Space (ACS) encompassing all control functions in a certain network domain and the concept of composition of networks sharing network control functions. In this paper, an experimental study on Ambient Networks is carried validating its concepts and showing the benefits of the Ambient Networks architecture. For the study, a streaming service scenario is selected. Besides ACS and network composition, the management of context information and the delivery of multimedia data within Ambient Networks are incorporated within this study.
