Abstract Within the framework of the European project MYCAREVENT, a vehicular communication solution has been developed, namely Vehicular Communication Gateway (VCG). The VCG solution can provide secure, reliable and always best connected wireless communications. The evolution of wireless technology further enables vehicles to communicate directly to each other, i.e. Car-to-Car (C2C) communications, mainly for the purposes of safety and local danger warning. Although both solutions are efficient in providing the intended services, they all suffer from the problem of low market penetration rate problem. In this presentation we propose an integrated solution, which on the one hand can benefit from the high data rate and multi-hop local wireless links of C2C, and on the other hand can provide MYCAREVENT services and Internet access to more vehicles through the VCG. The advantages, challenges and potential solutions are discussed in the presentation.
